Outdoorsy

Most of the time I am a stay-at home dad who does side teaching and shooting.  Otherwise, Patrick and Magdalena go on photo expeditions/ location scout all over central Arizona, or do art and music with daddy at home.  A typical day starts with them bringing me their shoes after breakfast and heading straight for the front door, saying "go!"  Truthfully I cannot think of anything we would be doing at home that would be more valuable than getting them out in fresh air, sunlight and open space, and luckily none of that costs a dime to enjoy.  Part of the point of moving to the southwest is that you have mountains, rivers, forests, deserts all at your fingertips year round, without the ridiculous crowds or annoying attitudes of any place I've explored on the coasts.
I remember growing up a child of the tv set instead of the outdoors and it's embarrassing to think I never went camping or enjoyed rivers or saw the ocean until I was an adult, yet the hierarchy of the Thundercats is imprinted in my brain, and I can still recall secret codes to pointless video games.  Hopefully when the kids reach the age they start resenting their parents they will still have fond memories of our daily outings, and not rebel by becoming shut-ins.
